¡GuateAmala!

Guatemala is a land rich in history and pride. But that wealth hasn’t consistently propelled it towards a bountiful future.

Strength and ingenuity of the early Mayan civilzation. Since independence from Spanish colonization, a wide spectrum of military and civilian governments. A 36-year guerrilla war. Massive biological diversity. A place of high altitude — it's the land of the eternal spring — yet poverty continues to befall it. Outsiders have often imposed their own rule, making it difficult to develop independent national thought. And most emphatically, Guatemala’s indigenous population still lacks equal rights to its European conquerors.

The Fundación Proyecto de Vida, a collective of Guatemalan leaders from all walks of life, approached BMD with a provocative collaborative proposition: co-imagine a vision of the country to come, one powerful enough to galvanize action and establish a positive, united, hopeful, ongoing and self-sustaining movement of national resonance.

Research and resource revealed the fulcrum: fuse the ambitions and challenges of Guatemala to the possibilities and potential developing in the world.

To supersede isolation, environmental stress, political instability, and lack of access to capital, technology, medicine, and education, and control their country’s future and their lives.

What makes a country great — like any business, like any design studio, like history itself — is its people.

¡GuateAmala!, a multi-year communications strategy, seeks to generate a strong collective interest across the population in this movement. Because, ultimately they will realize the vision and live as the arbiters of its success.

The sum of its parts coalesces the vision of ¡GuateAmala! into a global initiative, connecting the country to a worldwide nexus.

It creates an optimistic throughline for Guatemala, all the way from nationality to internationality.

BMD continues to collaborate with the Fundación Proyecto de Vida and develop a series of events to help launch discourse and action in different regions of Guatemala, introduce projects to the rest of the world and link Guatemala to the promise of global expertise.
