New Tokyo

The Mori Building Company commissioned Bruce Mau Design to help create a rethink of city life in Roppongi Hills, a $4 billion and 27-acre integrated property development in the heart of Tokyo.  BMD was tasked with producing marketing and communications strategies for the construction and launch phases of the project.

BMD co-authored, edited and designed a 350-page monograph of essays and studies regarding the city’s future. With hundreds of images, the book explores the story of Tokyo, and how the city interweaves traditional and contemporary Japanese identity.

The “Think Zone” is a richly programmed event gallery wherein visitors experience a centerpiece video installation titled “Tokyo Countdown.” The video, through the lens of "artificial nature" and other contradictory themes, posits the past, present and future of Tokyo in a global context.
