Grand Museum of Egypt, Dublin, Ireland, 2005 - Present
In 2005 we worked with Heneghan Peng Architects to design an environmental graphics package for the Grand Museum of Egypt. The Grand Museum of Egypt is conceived as a complex of buildings and landscapes with a single identity. The ambition of the graphics is to give the multiple programs a single voice. The result is coherence, while the interesting differences are still visible.
The signage was designed to react to the premise of the architecture through Grand Signs and Subtle Signs. The Grand Signs were meant to further expand the environment and reinforce the grandness of the project, while the Subtle Signs were meant to instill neutrality while emphasizing a graphic aesthetic.
By creating a schematic inventory of program types within the Grand Museum of Egypt, the language and style of individual sign required becomes evident as a whole. A font called GRAND was also created for the project.
