HR Generalist (Maternity Leave)

Job Title: HR Generalist (Maternity Leave)
Job Status: Full-time Contract – May 2017 to July 2018
Experience: Minimum 5-7 years
Location: Toronto 


Role:  BMD’s HR Generalist is our people and culture champion.  You are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions in this true full cycle generalist role; employee relations, talent strategy and execution, training and development, benefits, payroll and so much more.



  • Communicate, manage and execute company human resources policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements
  • Provide strategy and guidance between managers and employees
  • Collaborate with the CEO on annual talent strategy, forecasting and management on a continuous and on-going basis
  • Group benefits and RRSP program management, communication and administration
  • Process semi-monthly payroll
  • Track, report and manage employee data (vacation, leaves, tenure, etc.)
  • Facilitate internal resourcing for projects
  • Manage freelancers and/or contractors; resourcing, budgeting, invoicing
  • Maintenance of employee files and HRIS
  • On boarding and off boarding
  • Semi-monthly banking
  • Monthly and year-end HR metric reporting and administration; headcounts, remittances, federal and provincial requirements, etc.
  • Manage and administer the employee training program; budgeting, tracking and forecasting
  • Full-cycle recruitment for all levels of the organization
  • Create and distribute HR communications
  • Immigration coordination (visa’s, work permits, extentions, permanent residency assistance)
  • Manage the Executive & Operations Assistant ( and act as back-up in their absence)
  • Various other ad hoc HR programs; health & safety, exit interviews, monthly all-studio meeting, etc.



  • 5-7 years well-rounded Generalist experience in a project based business environment (creative agencies a plus)
  • Post-secondary graduate with a degree in business administration, human resources, communications or related field
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential matter
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Solid understanding of employment laws and practices, payroll, healthcare and RRSP administration
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proven ability to provide strategic support and management to all levels of an organization
