Account Director (Maternity Leave Contract)

Your mission as Account Director is to bring a passion and awareness for art, culture and business. You have a strong background in branding and design. Experience with the design of physical environments is also a plus. As a strategic partner and business lead to our clients and projects, you are responsible for building and strengthening client relationships, as well as the management and delivery of projects for leading global brands. You will strategically scope and price projects and have ultimate responsibility to ensure projects are delivered within scope and on budget. In this role, you will also work with the studio leadership to foster a transparent, honest and positive team environment, and lead and mentor junior staff. 

Responsibilities:
• Lead, motivate, inspire and manage clients, projects, accounts and design staff in partnership with the CCO and Managing Director;
• Have overall Account Management responsibility over a wide array of multi-faceted creative projects from initial pitching through to completion;
• Lead new business efforts, including pitches and presentations, proposal writing, and project formulation;
• Build and strengthen client relationships, elevate key relationships to more senior levels, and continuously focus on client engagement and client satisfaction. Be a trusted advisor to clients;
• Continuous engagement in the work. Collaborate on the development of innovative branding initiatives and strategies, and proactively bring forward ideas and solutions to enhance the client’s business, the client relationship, and the work;
• Strategically scope projects to develop effective and accurate pricing, and oversee the development of corresponding proposal and project plans;
• Have overall responsibility for the financial health of projects and clients. Oversee process to track progress, hours, and schedules against the agreed scope, and intervene as necessary to ensure projects are delivered within scope, on time, and on budget;
• Accurately forecast revenue recognition in line with generally accepted accounting principles. Evaluate and revise revenue forecast on a weekly basis to account for schedule shifts and scope changes;
• Lead client planning process to develop solid account plans and proactively identify opportunities for organic growth and project extension;
• In partnership with the CCO & Creative Leads, manage and coach project teams on an ongoing basis by identifying objectives and providing appropriate development opportunities. In particular, lead, mentor, and manage Senior Account Manager and Account Coordinator;
• Monitor team structure, staffing levels, and resourcing and work with Managing Director, HR Manager and Senior Finance Manager to develop and execute staffing plans to ensure the team is positioned for success;
• Participate in BMD’s Senior Leadership team and Management Council on overall business planning and collaboration.

Skills & Experience:
• Smart, goal-oriented, collaborative and entrepreneurial;
• Post-secondary graduate, with a degree in business, design, or liberal arts (or related field);
• Multifaceted background that includes 10+ years management experience in a creative environment;
• Experience in branding, design and communications is a must;
• Experience with spatial design projects is a plus;
• Passion for driving new business opportunities;
• Proven experience developing brands;
• Strong design sense and an awareness of design processes and concepts;
• Proven ability to provide strategic, management, and business leadership;
• Experience building and sustaining long-term client relationships;
• Ability to represent the studio with high-level client contacts and potential clients;
• Proven track record in identifying and developing new business opportunities;
• The ability to lead working sessions and present to groups of any size, (internal, client, or public) in a way that reflects a great depth in experience, and leadership;
• A sense of humor and ability to effectively receive and communicate feedback;
• An understanding of team dynamics and an aptitude for sharing knowledge.
