Amanda is a Senior Designer at Bruce Mau Design, specializing in projects that use design as a tool to drive honest civic and cultural change. She believes that the opportunity to consider yourself a designer—a maker of things, be they visual or physical or strategic—comes with the responsibility to do these things with meaning.
 
With a propensity for big-picture visioning and narrative building, Amanda has developed communications programs for such clients as Arizona State University, Rutgers University, The Nature Conservancy, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Lycée Français de Chicago, and the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Amanda recently led BMD's Bureau of Doing Something About pop-up design studio in downtown Toronto, she is also spearheading the BDSA book project that will serve Toronto in offering design solutions to city problems. Operating at the intersection of communications and art, Amanda created BMD’s painted installation for The Showtime House in New York, and the studio’s redesigned Panton Chair for the Interior Design Show. 
 
Amanda is a practicing artist with a studio at The Department in Toronto, and has exhibited in venues such as Lennox Contemporary, Gallery DK, The Gladstone Hotel, the Arts & Letters Club of Toronto, and Nuit Blanche. She is a contemporary arts writer, and was recently invited to contribute an essay to the Power Plant gallery’s publication, Switch.
 
Amanda initiated and maintains an ongoing collaborative relationship between BMD and OCAD University that brings design students into the studio to experience new methods, practices, and ideas. She has guest lectured at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, OCAD University, and at conferences for the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario.
 
Amanda holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen’s University, specializing in painting and printmaking, and worked in contemporary art galleries before joining the studio.
