HWKN Architects Website
  • New York based architects Matthias Hollwich and Marc Kushner of HWKN, asked Bruce Mau Design to redesign their firm’s website. Our mission was to make the HWKN site more intuitive and visual. It was crucial that the site be flexible, expandable, and easy to maintain themselves. In order to get unique look and added functionality, we made some smart tweaks to the code, pulled in a Twitter and blog feed, and used a open source web font. In these ways, we were able to break away from web standards without sacrificing functionality or design.

The site works really well on tablets and looks great on mobile devices.

For BMD this was an exercise in building on an existing template, and thinking outside the box. We knew the site had to be constantly changing and wanted to make it easy to update, a bit playful, and a part of different online communities, including Tumblr, Twitter and their own creation Architizer.

HWKN is doing some amazing work, including BOOM! A lifestyle community in Palm Springs, designed for 21st Century living and aging. BMD initially worked with Hollwich and Kushner on the BOOM project.
